On the census of 1850 Washington Co., AR and 1860 Johnson co., AR; others in this county in 1860 included uncle Thomas B. Porter and cousins Joseph, Thomas, William and Edward Porter. Served in company ‘C’, 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles (Confederate). This unit fought at Pea Ridge and at Wilson’s Creek where it suffered severe casualties. Also in this unit were two Porter cousins.
